Why is this happening?
You pick the reason: from shareholder pressure on quarterly results to fear of losing power and influence over people, from massive inflationary pressures coming with new hires to the necessity to safeguard budgets by retaining current employees on current salaries, from powerful commercial real estate lobby to habit and unaddressed proximity bias – the 2023 world of work is festering with unresolved problems, anxiety, aggression, and short-term thinking.
But there is one more key reason no one is talking about: very few managers are actually equipped with the mindset, skills, and the tools to lead mindfully and drive high performance in a truly flexible, distributed remote or hybrid workspace.
